Cameron Highlands to Sydney day one
An early wake up for a long travel move. Five hours of bussing to KL, too much time to kill, then a ten hour flight to Sydney. The first thing I discovered is that I’ve lost my eye mask. I picked up a nice one back in Chicago from Target. Big, adjustable, and more generous padding than a Victoria’s Secret push up. I’ll miss it. The ride goes easy enough and I even have an empty seat next to me for much of it. I took the liberty of making a stop at a convenience store last night for snacks and my sambal egg onigiri breakfast is filling a hole.
Back in KL I dumped my bag at luggage storage and went off to get a roll of film developed. This lab is incredible. For four bucks they’ll process, scan, and email me the results and get it all done in under two hours. A gift after the lab in Delhi which still hasn’t gotten back to me after over a week and charging me double. To kill the development time I grab a bowl of noodles and another teh tarik. I didn’t sleep much last night and every bit of caffeine helps.

I’m really getting bothered by the crowd manners of the people here, it’s annoying me more than it should. After Delhi it’s just so clear when folks don’t know how to remember other people around them. People stopping in front of escalators. People turning around in busy walkways without looking first. Phones and hands getting shoved in front of my face while people point. Walking slow. Slow. Slow. Even with air conditioning people walk slow here. Not my thing.

To replenish the stash I popped into a bookstore. This one is big and popular, probably because it’s a nice place to take photos of yourself with books. Buying books is a nightmare here. After major categories everything is sorted by color. That’s cute for one shelf in your house but it’s a damn nightmare when you’re trying to scan through a store. Where’s my metro token? I’m out of here.

Walk through the mall. Hop the monorail to KL Sental. Walk through the NU Sentral Mall. Hop the airport train at Sentral. Walk through the mall. Check in. Immigration. Wall throigh the mall. Security. Can you see why I’m tired of this place? I’m now at my gate two and a half hours before boarding because if I’m going to sit in a mall, it may as well be close to my gate. Only problem is there’s two and a half hours to boarding and nowhere to drink. You can buy a tiger for about ten USD but the vibes for consumption are absolutely rancid. I’d rather sit in the hallway and stare at the wall.
